Roadrunners Extend Win Streak to Six

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners extended their win streak to six games with a 5-3 victory over the Laredo Broncos Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of an attendance of 3,643.

Wardell Starling (3-0) picked up the win after pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six.

Ambiorix Concepcion got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run off of Laredo's starter Dimitri Camareno (0-2) giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.

The Broncos (4-11) got a run in the top of the second on an RBI double by Dustin Spruill that allowed Nick Mahin to score cutting the Roadrunners lead 2-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Carlos Hereaud led off with a single and then came in to score on a Robert Matlock RBI triple extending Edinburg's lead 3-1.

Three straight hits for the Broncos to start the top of the third inning allowed Jake Wells to score cutting the lead to one. A throwing error by the Roadrunners defense allowed Jason Diaz to score tying things at three.

An RBI ground out by Matlock in the bottom of the fourth allowed Vincent Blue to score giving the Roadrunners the 4-3 lead.

Hereaud extended Edinburg's lead in the bottom of the sixth with his fourth home run of the season making it 5-3.

Julio Castro pitched a perfect ninth for his third save of the season giving Edinburg the 5-3 victory.

The Roadrunners (12-3) and Broncos will play the second game of the series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (2-0) is expected to face Santo Hernandez (1-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
