EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (7-4) defeated the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (5-8) 1-0 at Harlingen Field on Wednesday night. The victory snapped the Roadrunners' four game losing streak.
Tim Haines (2-0) picked up his second win of the season after holding the WhiteWings scoreless through his seven innings work. He allowed four hits and struck out seven.
The only run of the ball game came in the top of the seventh inning against WhiteWings' reliever Todd Lutz (1-1). After Eric Gonzalez led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, Amado German drove him in with an RBI single to center field which gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
Kelly Casares didn't allow a run in an inning and two thirds for his first save of the season.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play game two of their four-game series Thursday night at Harlingen Field. Miguel Martinez (0-0) will face Jorge Lugo (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
