Colts Win Fourth Straight

SAN ANGELO, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (9-4) managed another quick ballgame lasting just two hours and thirty minutes as Chandler Barnard (3-0) delivered eight innings, allowing just one earned run as the Colts won their fourth straight over the Coastal Bend Thunder (7-6) with a score of 5-2.

In the bottom of the third with the game tied at one, Ronnie Gaines singled to left field. That gave the United League batting average leader, Bryan Frichter, who is hitting .500 on the nose, a chance to move Gaines to third with a double. Than, Jason Landreth delivered a broken bat RBI single giving the Colts a 2-1 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh. It was back to back singles by Jason Diaz and Gaines, which set the table for Frichter who would lift a high fly ball over the left center field wall, his fourth homer of the year, making it a 5-1 contest.

The Thunder would manage one in the eighth, which would create a save opportunity for Chace Vacek. In the ninth, with runners on the corners, Amadeo Zazueta hit a comebacker right at Vacek as he rolled the 1-6-3 double play ending the game and preserving his league leading fourth save of the year.

Offensively for the Colts, Bryan Frichter led the way with a double and a homerun adding three RBI's. Ronnie Gaines had three hits, a double and two singles. And Adam Shupe made his professional debut behind the plate adding an RBI single to the contest.

The winning pitcher, Barnard, went eight innings, scattering four hits, allowing just one earned run, striking out five, without offering one free base. Chace Vacek would pitch a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. The losing pitcher would be Carlos Rangel (0-2).

The Colts and Thunder will resume their four game series tomorrow as fans look forward to thirsty Thursday here at Foster Field. First pitch is set for 7:05, gates will be open at 6:05. San Angelo leads the series one game to none.
