Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
The Roadrunners could not take advantage of six Jackson Senator errors and left the tying run on base on three separate occasions as Edinburg dropped their third game in four nights losing game one of a three game series 5-4 to the Senators at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
Base running errors cost Edinburg an opportunity to tie the game or potentially take the lead in the eighth inning. With runners at second and third and nobody out Wilson Burwell hit a ground ball which should have been just a groundout to the shortstop. However, Neesan Zieour and Anthony Angel were caught off of their bases causing Angel to be out going to home plate.
With one out and the tying run at third base Cedrick Harris was caught stealing trying to advance to second base and Eddie Fitzpatrick at the plate.
A delayed steal attempt of home by Wilson Burwell ended the inning when he was nailed at the plate by Jackson second baseman Erick Mejias.
Pedro Flores took his first loss for Edinburg allowing four earned runs in a complete game effort. Flores (4-1) allowed nine hits and truck out seven in his eight innings of work. Jackson started Reid Casey, a converted reliever, went just 5 and 2/3 innings for the win. Casey (2-3) scattered seven hits and had just two earned runs allowed.
Dan Valentin (2-0) takes the hill in the Wednesday evening contest, while Jackson counters with Laine McKeller (1-2) with game time set for 7:05.
