Roadrunners Defeat Broncos 10-2

EDINBURG, Texas---- For the second game in a row the Edinburg Roadrunners (2-0) scored 10 runs in the game to defeat the Laredo Broncos (0-2) 10-2.

Eric Montoya (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after pitching six innings and striking out five. He allowed two runs but both were unearned due to an error in the inning.

Eric Gonzalez started the bottom of the second inning with a walk and then was moved to second base after Amado German singled to center. Gonzalez and German came around to score after Angel Reyes doubled to deep left field which made the score 2-0. The Roadrunners added another run when Osiel Flores hit a groundball to the shortstop that allowed Reyes to score making it 3-0.

The Broncos picked up two runs in the top of the third inning with some help from the Roadrunner defense. After a throwing error by Reyes at shortstop that allowed the first run of the inning to score, Andres Santos had an RBI groundout which made the score 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Carlos Hereaud hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Vincent Blue to score from third which pushed lead to 4-2.

The Roadrunners never looked back as they added six runs in the bottom of the seventh innings. Hereaud and Bryon Smith each had a two-run double in the inning which helped make the score 10-2.

The relief corps of Bryan Heaston, Kelley Casares and Bryan Martin pitched three scoreless innings and allowing one hit on the night.

The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the third game of the series on Saturday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines will match up against Maximo De La Cruz with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
