Roadrunners Battle Back to Snap Skid

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their three-game losing streak with a come from behind 4-3 victory over the McAllen Thunder Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Trailing 3-1 going into the top of the ninth, Edinburg scored two in the inning and then one in the top of the 10th on an RBI double by Derek Perren giving Edinburg the 4-3 lead and the eventual win.

Mike Goss got the Thunder (15-28) out in front in the bottom of the third with a two-run double that allowed Roberto Rodriguez and Craig Hertler to score making it 2-0.

That would be all the runs Edinburg starter Osvaldo Rodriguez would allow in seven innings pitched while recording nine strikeouts as he took the loss.

The Roadrunners (26-17) got on the board in the top of the sixth. Carlos Hereaud started things off with a single and then moved to second on a single by Felix Molina. Cristobal Santana then followed with an RBI single to right field that scored Hereaud cutting the Thunder lead 2-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, a throwing allowed Henry Abad to score from second giving McAllen an insurance run making it 3-1.

Edinburg battled back in the top of the ninth against Chad Robinson. Tim Battle lined a one-out triple to right field and then came in to score on an RBI ground out by Stantrel Smith. Vincent Blue then walked and moved to second on a single by Wilmer Pino. Hereaud then singled that allowed Blue to score tying the game at three.

In the top of the 10th, Santana led off the inning with a walk and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Derek Perren then hit an RBI double off of Spencer Trygg (0-2) that allowed Santana to score giving Edinburg the 4-3 lead.

Julio Castro (3-0), who came in during the bottom of the ninth, got Mike Goss to ground out to end the game leaving the tying run in scoring position giving Edinburg the 4-3 victory.

The Roadrunner and Thunder will wrap up their series Sunday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Aaron Tullo (2-0) is expected to face Brian Murphy with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
