San Angelo Colts News Release

Harlingen, Texas --- Rio Grande Valley designated hitter Romulo Ruiz and second baseman Fidel Hernandez both homered in the WhiteWings 7-4 victory over the Colts Friday night at Harlingen Field.

Ruiz crushed a two-run homer down the left field line in the second inning, and Hernandez had another two-RBI shot in the fifth. It was Ruiz's first home run of the year, and Hernandez's second. As a team, the WhiteWings have hit a league-worst five home runs this season.

The WhiteWings' first home run tied the game at three, and the second one gave them a 6-3 lead.

San Angelo scored three runs in the second, but was held scoreless until the eighth. First baseman Daryl Jones, catcher Andrew Caron and second baseman Jason Diaz drove in the first three runs. Left fielder Jamar Walton scored in both innings, and went 4-for-5 with a triple. He became the second Colt to have a four-hit game this season.

The WhiteWings tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth to give them a three-run cushion entering the ninth.

On the mound, Colts' starter Jose Sanchez (1-2) gave up six runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He took the loss. Meanwhile, WhiteWings reliever Clint Bowker (1-0) gave up just one run on five hits in 4 2/3 innings to earn his first win. Closer Nick Lenzendorf pitched the ninth and earned his third save of the year.

The win improves Rio Grande Valley to 23-18, while the loss drops San Angelo to 21-20. This series continues Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

The Colts' next home game is Saturday, July 14 when they host the McAllen Thunder at 7:05 p.m. It will be Glow-In-The-Dark Baseball Night, sponsored by AEP Texas. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will get a glow-in-the-dark Colts' baseball, courtesy of AEP Texas.
