Roadrunners Announce 2012 Schedule

Edinburg, Texas --- The Edinburg Roadrunners announced their 2012 schedule Thursday. They will play 96 games against five opponents in throughout Texas. The season will run from late May into early September.
The Roadrunners open the new season at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 against the Abilene Prairie Dogs at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Among the highlights of the 58-game home schedule are 11 Thursday $2 Beer Night games and six $2 Tuesday games. Other promotions include fireworks, giveaway nights and youth clinic nights. The Roadrunners also play 26 weekend games (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at Edinburg Baseball Stadium this season.
"A 58-game home schedule gives our fans more opportunities to enjoy our style of affordable family entertainment this summer," Roadrunners General Manager Doug Leary said. "The extra home games also allow us to create our largest promotional schedule to date. We are currently working on putting together an exciting 2012 promotional calendar."
Game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 6:05 p.m. on Sundays. Gates for every Roadrunners home game open one hour prior to first pitch.
This year marks the 12th season of professional baseball in Edinburg and seventh in the United League/North American League. They played exclusively in the United League from 2006 through 2010 before it merged with the independent Golden and Northern leagues last year to form the independent North American League.
There will also be two new teams in the league: the Abilene Prairie Dogs and the Fort Worth Cats. Fort Worth joins the league after spending the past six years in the independent American Association.
"We are excited about the two new additions to the league this year," Leary said. "Abilene and the Fort Worth will give our fans more variety of competition. Our fans will have the opportunity to see both of these clubs in action at the stadium this summer. These additions also help solidify the league as we move forward."
