Thunder Announce 2012 Schedule

McAllen, Texas --- The McAllen Thunder announced their 2012 schedule Thursday. They will play 96 games against five opponents in throughout Texas. The season will run from late May into early September.
The Thunder opens the new season at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 on the road versus the San Angelo Colts at Foster Field. The Homer Opener is set for Tuesday, June 5 against the Abilene Prairie Dogs at 7:05 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Among the highlights of the 30-game home schedule are four Thursday $2 Beer Night games and four $2 Tuesday games. Other promotions include fireworks, giveaway nights and youth clinic nights. The Thunder also plays 15 weekend games (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at Edinburg Baseball Stadium this season.
"A 30-game home schedule in our second season will give our fans more opportunities to enjoy our style of affordable family entertainment this summer and is an increase of 10-home games from 2011," Thunder General Manager Doug Leary said. "We are currently working on putting together an exciting 2012 promotional calendar that showcases many of the businesses in our community."
Game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 6:05 p.m. on Sundays. Gates for every Thunder home game open one hour prior to first pitch. There will also be two new teams in the league: the Abilene Prairie Dogs and the Fort Worth Cats. Fort Worth joins the league after spending the past six years in the independent American Association.
"We are excited about the two new additions to the league this year," Leary said. "Abilene and the Fort Worth Cats will give our fans more variety of competition. Our fans will have the opportunity to see the Prairie Dogs in June as they make one of four visits to the RGV. These additions also help solidify the league as we move forward."
