
Road Weary Sockers Fall to Force, 7-3

CLEVELAND, Ohio. - The Sockers were defeated by the Cleveland Force on Sunday by the score of 7-3. It was the fist time this season that the Sockers dropped both games of a back-to-back set.
After San Diego tied the game midway through the first quarter, the Force responded by turning up their offensive pressure and out-scored San Diego 6-2 the rest of the way, including four goals in the second period. The loss was the Sockers' fifth consecutive on the road and third straight overall. San Diego fell to 10-13 overall and 2-8 on the road.
Cleveland's Joel Bailey started things off in the opening quarter with his first career goal (1-0) at 4:33 that came off a pass from Jim Larkin. The Sockers' Robbie Aristodemo answered back (1-1) with the equalizer from Mariano Bollella at 8:06. Cleveland then recaptured the lead for good when Fred Degand scored a restart goal (2-1) nineteen seconds later at 8:25.
In the second quarter, Cleveland's Omid Namazi fed John Ball for another restart goal (3-1) at 5:06. The Force added to its lead when Justin Evans found the back of the net with a short-handed goal (4-1) at 10:53 that was assisted by John Ball. The Sockers fired back eight seconds later at 11:01 when Paul Dougherty scored a power play goal (4-2), his first of the season, assisted by Paul Wright. The Force answered back with a power play goal (5-2) of their own at 13:29 scored by Myles Stoddard and assisted by Zoran Karic. Cleveland went up 6-2 at the half after Adauto Neto's goal, assisted by Degand at 14:21.
The lone goal (7-2) of the third quarter came from Cleveland's Lee Edgerton off a pass from Bailey at 4:39.
The Sockers' Tony Velazquez put in his sixth goal (7-3) of the season off the assist from Mauricio Alegre at 7:34 of the fourth quarter
The Sockers return home to host the 2002-03 MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on Saturday, February 14 at 7 p.m. Six Sockers will be raffled off to fans for a Valentine¹s Day dinner immediately after the game.
