CLEVELAND, OHIO. - The Cleveland Force played host to and defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Western Division San Diego Sockers by a final score of 7-3 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
With the victory, the Force snapped a five game losing streak and improved to 7-15 overall, 4-4 versus MISL Central Division opponents, 3-0 in the season series and 4-8 at the Convo. With the loss, the Sockers fell to 10-13 overall and 2-5 versus Eastern Division opponents and 3-7 on the road.
Cleveland opened the scoring (1-0) when Joel Bailey scored the goal off the outlet pass from goalkeeper Jim Larkin at 4:33 of the first quarter. The goal marked the first career MISL goal for the Bailey. San Diego tied the game (1-1) when Robbie Aristodemo found the back of the net off the pass from Mariano Bollella at 8:06. The Force regained the lead (2-1) when Fred DeGand scored the restart goal off the assist from Zoran Karic at 8:25.
Cleveland added to its lead and opened the second quarter scoring (3-1) when John Ball tapped in the restart goal off the pass from Omid Namazi at 5:06. The Force kept the scoring attack going (4-1) when Justin Evans scored the restart and short-handed goal off the pass from John Ball at 10:53. The Sockers cut into the lead and ended a 3-0 run by Cleveland (4-2) when Paul Dougherty scored the power play goal off the assist from Paul Wright at 11:01. The Force added to their lead (5-2) when Myles Stoddard scored the power play and restart goal off the pass from Karic at 13:29. Cleveland kept the scoring going (6-2) when Adauto Neto scored the goal off the assist from Degand at 14:21.
The Force opened the second half scoring (7-2) when Lee Edgerton found the back of the net off the cross from Bailey at 4:39 of the third quarter.
San Diego opened the fourth quarter scoring and ended a 4-0 run by Cleveland (7-3) when Tony Velazquez scored the goal off the assist from Mauricio Alegre at 8:34.
Cleveland will next travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on the MISL Western Eastern Division Philadelphia KiXX on Wednesday, February 11 at the Convo. The game is a school day game for the KiXX and is scheduled to kick off at 10:35 a.m.
