Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors played a solid defensive game and knocked off the Gladiators by a score of 3-1, stopping their three game win streak.
Greenville started off the scoring late in the first period with a Kyle Haines goal. Teams had four players a side after penalties to each team. This brought more open ice and Haines capitalized with a goal on the back door. Brandon Wong and Marc-Olivier Vallerand set up the play collecting the assists.
Joride Johnston scored 5:02 into the second with his third goal of the season. Both Johnston and Haines have scored in back-to-back games. Wong deflected Steven Delisle's slapshot just 2:36 later to bring the Road Warriors up 3-0.
The Road Warriors would stay tight on defense in the third period with goaltender Nathan Lieuwen leading the way. Lieuwen made big saves throughout the period to hold the Gladiators scoreless. Sean Berkstresser took an interference penalty in the closing minutes which lead to a powerplay goal scored by Tyler Murovich. Murovich jammed in a round opportunity that ended hopes for Lieuwen's second consecutive shutout. Lieuwen was the winning goaltender stopping 31 of 32 shots. Mike Lee was the losing goalie with 28 saves in 31 shots.
