The "Road to Gold" begins tomorrow (Thursday) for Soo Greyhounds winger SERGEY TOLCHINSKY .
Fresh off his first season with the Hounds, the Moscow, Russia native will step onto the ice with Team Russia in their first preliminary game versus Team USA (11 a.m.) at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship.
Team Russia previously defeated Team Sweden 5-2 in their lone exhibition contest.
"It's really great to be here playing for a National team, it's always good. I'm with all my buddies that I missed during the season and now Im with them.
Everything is pretty good" said Tolchinsky when reached in Russia.
"We are a good team. We have six players from the CHL and some players from the KHL. I think we have a good chance to win this WJC."
The event is being held in Sochi, Russia, approximately twenty hours south of Sergey's hometown, on the shores of the Black Sea.
Tolchinsky, selected by the Hounds in Round 1 of the 2012 CHL Import draft had a solid rookie season with the club.
In 62 games played, the left shooting winger had 26 goals and 25 assists, good for 51 points. (7th in team scoring and 1st in team rookie scoring)
In six playoff games he had 2 goals and 2 assists.
Heading into the U18 tournament, the 5'9" forward is no stranger to International competition.
With Team Russia at the 2012 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, Sergey scored a hat trick included a shorthanded penalty shot marker to lead his club to a 7-4 victory over Team USA in the Championship game. He would end that tournament with 6 goals in 6 games played before being named to the Tournament All-Star team.
Fast forward to the present and Team Russia will be led by two-time Olympic champion and top defender for the Soviet and Russian national teams, Igor Kravchuk. They will compete in Group A with teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia and the United States.
Team Russia will be looking for it's first gold medal since 2007.

Monday, April 22 vs Latvia - 11 a.m. EST
Tuesday, April 23 vs Czech Republic - 11 a.m. EST
Quarter-Final action is set for Thursday, April 25 with the Semi-Finals on Friday and Bronze/Gold medal games to be held on Sunday.
