Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Rockford, IL - The Rockford Rivets came back from a late three-run deficit to shock the Traverse City Pit Spitters in a 5-4 walk-off win on Sunday.

The Pit Spitters have been walked off three times this season. In every walk-off loss, they were leading through six or more innings.

Rockford took the lead in the third on a two-out RBI single. The Rivets would be held in check the rest of the way by starter Aaron Forrest.

Forrest pitched a season-high seven strong innings. He allowed just the one earned run on three hits and struck out six batters. He got the offense to pick him up late.

In the seventh, the Pit Spitters tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Sam Tackett. In the eighth, they took the lead with a three-run inning. Marshall Toole walked with the bases loaded to score the go-ahead run. Hunter Tabb singled home a pair of runners with a two-out single to go up 4-1.

Rockford struck late, however, to steal a game from Traverse City. A two-out two-RBI double from Ty Crittenberger cut the lead to one in the bottom of the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, Cam McDonald was the hero, doubling home the tying and winning runs off Ryan Insco.
