
Rockers Split Series with Rafters

Ashwaubenon, Wis. -The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the second of back-to-back meetings 7-2 Sunday afternoon, as Green Bay split the series with Wisconsin Rapids following Saturday night's win.
The Rockers drop to 9-19 on the season while Wisconsin Rapids improves to 23-4 through 27 games played this season.
After Logan Berrier struck out the side in the top of the first and the Rockers went scoreless in the bottom of the first, both teams went scoreless in the second, as both pitchers cruised along heading into the third with the game still scoreless.
Neither team broke the ice in the third as both pitchers each tossed a 1-2-3 inning, keeping the game deadlocked at 0-0.
Berrier got his second strikeout of the game in the fourth, striking out the side as he retired his twelfth batter in a row going into the fifth.
Berrier added to his strikeout total by three in the fifth, striking out all three batters he faced in the frame as the score remained 0-0 through five innings of play.
Despite a one-out single from Wisconsin Rapids, Garrett Latoz caught the runner stealing, to retire the side in the top of the sixth, as the scoreless game continued going into the seventh.
The Rafters broke the ice in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs in the frame off an RBI groundout and an error, taking a 2-0 lead going into the eighth.
Wisconsin Rapids added to their lead in the eighth, courtesy of five runs, as they took their largest lead of the game going into the bottom of the eighth, leading 7-0 through seven and a half innings.
After the Rockers went scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, Jacob Schaaf pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to keep it 7-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
The Rockers plated home two runs across in the bottom of the ninth courtesy of RBI singles from Matt Scannell and Griffin Selby, but the Rafters struck out the side to end the game as the final score was 7-2.
Next up for the Rockers is a home matchup with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Monday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Capital Credit Union Park with the pregame concert performed by Nicki Sims set to start at 5:35 p.m. It is also free hot dog Monday at the ballpark in which hot dogs will be free for the first 90 minutes after gates open.
