Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, NJ - The Camden Riversharks continued expanding their roster this week with the addition of Valentino Pascucci and Rene Rivera. Both players join the Riversharks this year with major league experience. Pascucci joins the 'Sharks as an outfielder and Rivera will be in the catcher's position for the 2010 season.
Valentino Pascucci will make his first appearance with the Riversharks during their 10th anniversary season. In the 1999 draft, Valentino was originally selected by the Montreal Expos in the 15th round. In 2004, he made his major league debut, appearing in 32 games for the Expos. He had 6 runs, 6 RBI's and compiled a .177 batting average in his major league debut.
Since 2003, Valentino has consistently been playing at the AAA level, primarily in the Pacific Coast League (PCL). Most recently, Valentino spilt his time during the 2009 season between two clubs, the Albuquerque Isotopes and the Portland Beavers. Collectively, he amassed 62 runs, 77 RBI's, 104 hits and registered a .244 batting average as a first baseman and designated hitter. Pascucci will most likely be seen in the outfield position for the Riversharks this season.
"Valentino put up solid numbers while playing Triple A. Together with Botts and Robnett we will potentially have a threesome that can be very powerful in the Atlantic League," Team Manager, Von Hayes said.
Rene Rivera will also don a Riversharks uniform this season and brings several years of major league experience with him. After being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2001 draft, Rene went on to play in the Mariners' Rookie League. In 2004, he made his Major League debut with Seattle and then again during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Most notably in 2005, he compiled a .396 batting average, 3 runs, and 6 RBI's for the Mariners. Rene finished his 2009 season catching with the Buffalo Bisens, a Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, and will now be a strong addition to the Riversharks roster.
"Rivera will most likely be our everyday catcher," Hayes said, "His defensive skills are as good as you will see in the league, and he is excited about his opportunity to play for Camden," he added.
The Riversharks open their 10th Anniversary Season, presented by Wawa, on Thursday, April 22nd, on the road against the Newark Bears. The team will play their home opener at Campbell's Field against the Bears on April 30th, 2010, at 7:05 PM. Individual and group tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased online at http://www.riversharks.com/ www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
