
Rivermen Win 3-2, Complete Series Sweep Saturday

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Peoria Rivermen scored twice on the powerplay, including the game-winner with 6:28 to go in regulation to beat the Louisiana IceGators 3-2 in the Cajundome Saturday night. The win closes out a 3-1-0 road trip for the Rivermen before they return home for six consecutive games at Carver Arena.
The Rivermen took the lead early in the first as after Brandon Greenside was issued a slashing penalty at 1:42 of the first, he came out of the box and took an immediate breakaway and beat Louisiana goalie Adam Courchaine for the 1-0 Rivermen lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the 10:29 mark of the second period when new IceGators signee Dylan Hood drove to the net and put the puck past Rivermen goaltender Francois Brassard for the 1-1 tie. The Rivermen regained the lead on the powerplay after Travis Armstrong was called for cross-checking and Matt Summers buried a feed from Mike Slowikowski for the 2-1 lead. The IceGators tied the game late in the second when a faceoff in the Peoria zone was won back to Armstrong, who passed to Nick Kuquali and his shot was redirected in front of the net by former Rivermen forward Alex Hudson for the 2-2 tie.
The Rivermen broke the tie on the powerplay in the third with 6:22 left in the game when a Summers and Jake Trask came in on a rush and left the puck in the slot for Ben Oskroba who blasted it home for the game-winning goal.
Brassard got the win in net making his pro debut, stopping 19 of 21 shots faced. The 21-year-old Gatineau, Quebec native played parts of four seasons in the Quebec Major-Junior Hockey League and was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 6th round of the 2012 NHL entry draft.
