Rivermen Complete Sweep of IceGators

Louisiana IceGators News Release

The Louisiana IceGators struggled once again to find a rhythm against the Peoria Rivermen, allowing two power play goals en route to a 3-2 loss. Peoria thrived on the man advantage, converting two of their four extra man situations. The IceGators, meanwhile, went scoreless on their four power play opportunities, including one in the final eight minutes of the contest.

The Rivermen's victory completed a three-game weekend sweep over the IceGators and extended the IceGators' losing streak to four games. The IceGators return to action next Saturday night when they host the Fayetteville FireAntz in the first game of a two-game weekend set. Game time in the Cajundome is set for 7:05 p.m.

"We beat ourselves tonight," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "Major mental breakdowns cost us the game. Those major meltdowns cost us another two points. We probably had 20 minutes of solid hockey over the whole weekend."

Peoria drew first blood when Brandon Greenside came out of the penalty box and scored on a breakaway 3:51 into the game.

The IceGators responded nearly 30 minutes later, tying the game on a Dylan Hood score with 9:31 left in the second period. Travis Armstrong and Mitchell Stretch assisted on the play.

The Rivermen capitalized on a botched IceGator line change to regain the lead. That lapse gave Peoria a three-on-one opportunity that resulted in a Matt Summers backdoor goal with 1:31 remaining in the frame. Michael Slowikowski and Tim Hall assisted on the score.

Twenty-eight seconds later, the IceGators knotted the score again. Former Riverman Alex Hudson scored his first goal as an IceGator with 1:03 left in the period. Nicholas Kuqali and Travis Armstrong assisted.

The IceGators, however, proved to be their own worst enemy again. Louisiana threw away a power play opportunity when Travis Armstrong was caught holding. On the ensuring Peoria power play, Ben Oskroba scored the game-winner off assists from Summers and Jake Trask with 6:22 left in regulation.

According to Omicioli, neither he nor his players will have any rest between now and next Saturday.

"Now it's time to make some changes and fine tune our team," Omicioli said. "Now we have to move forward."
