
Rivermen Welcome Back Wheeler, Stanfield

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Thursday that winger-defenseman Nick Wheeler (right) has been returned on loan from the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) and will be in the lineup this weekend against Knoxville. In addition, winger Parker Stanfield (left) has been released from the Florida Everblades (ECHL), but will not rejoin the Rivermen until Monday.
Wheeler, 25, appeared in three games with the Cyclones and recorded three shots on goal. Prior to his Jan. 6 promotion, he skated in 26 contests for the Rivermen and notched 11 points (6g, 5a) with 32 penalty minutes.
A native of Nashua, New Hampshire, Wheeler spent 33 games last season with ECHL Fort Wayne, where he produced 15 points (3g, 12a) and 33 penalty minutes for the Komets. He also appeared in 29 contests in the Federal Hockey League between the Cape Cod Bluefins and Dayton Demonz. Overall, the 5'8, 175-pounder is in his third professional season following a four-year career at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Stanfield, 23, appeared in seven games with Florida during his second call-up this season and collected a goal, two penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. Earlier this year, he spent three games with ECHL South Carolina and registered three points (1g, 2a).
A native of Orange County, California, Stanfield has appeared in 22 games for the Rivermen this season and has produced four goals, 16 assists (tied for second on the team) and 49 penalty minutes. Last year, Stanfield played 33 games for ECHL Bakersfield, where he recorded six goals and seven assists following an eight-game endeavor with Poprad HK SKP in Slovakia's top professional league. In addition, Stanfield collected 30 points (13g, 17a) in 47 games for Bakersfield during the 2011-12 season.
The Rivermen welcome the Knoxville Ice Bears to Carver Arena for the first time tomorrow for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop. Friday is "Carload Night," as fans are encouraged to load up the crew and bring everyone to the game for just $40!
