
Thunder Fall Short to FireAntz

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Thunder missed a chance to escape the Southern Professional Hockey League basement with a 3-1 loss to the Fayetteville FireAntz on Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Thunder lit the lamp first when Dennis Sicard spanked in a rebound of a Nic Polaski shot also assisted by Brandon Hew just 3:38 into the game. The FireAntz tied the contest 9:21 in on a heavy slap shot from the left point by Corey Toy, assisted by Brandon Richardson and Matt Ridley, to set the first intermission score at 1-1.
The FireAntz gained a 2-1 advantage with 17:34 showing on the second period clock with Nick Craven threaded the needle on a wrist shot from the left circle. A furious flurry with multiple rebounds led to a 3-1 FireAntz lead with 2:57 left with the final carom pushed over sprawled Thunder goalie Breton Lindoff by Toy.
Peter Skoggard earned the win by stopping 35 shots while Lindoff took the loss with 30 saves. The Thunder did not convert any of their six power plays while the FireAntz came up empty on their only chance.
The Thunder rematch with the FireAntz at U.S. Cellular Coliseum on Friday night at 7:05.
