NEWS AND NOTES
The hard way. There are easier ways to get 10 points in the standings but the Rivermen did it with four overtime games. They have earned at least one point in six of their first eight games of the year.
Hit the road already. The Rivermen will embark on their first real road trip of the season as they head to Cleveland, OH and Hamilton, ON this weekend. Peoria has played a league-high seven home games at this point in the season and have nine points in those seven games.
North Country.Peoria will play three games against the North Division this weekend and have already gone 0-1-1 against the North so far this season (Grand Rapids/Hamilton). They will play six different opponents for a total of 26 games against the other division of the Western Conference.
PK Turnaround. After starting the season by allowing seven power-play goals on their first 21 penalty-kills (66.7%) the Rivermen have rebounded by killing off 13 consecutive penalties against them.
So long IceHogs. The Rivermen and IceHogs will not meet again until January 16. They played four times in the first eight games of the Rivermen season, not to mention the two preseason matchups in late September.
First period success. In the four games against Rockford, Peoria outshot the IceHogs 57-29 in the first period alone, including 18-2 on Wednesday night. They are outshooting the opposition 84-69 in the first despite being outshot 237-232 overall. They have outscored their opponents 9-6 in the opening 20 minutes and have only been trailing twice after the first period.
