
Rivermen Special Teams Spur Win at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Peoria Rivermen jumped into third place in the Southern Professional Hockey League with a 3-0 victory over the Louisiana Ice Gators on Sunday afternoon at the Cajundome.
The first score of the game was a successful penalty shot by Ben Warda to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead with 12:36 remaining in the second period. Josh Harris sent the Rivs ahead 2-0 just a minute and a half later with 10:58 left with a low short-range drive assisted by Matt Summers.
Peoria jumped ahead 3-0 on a rebound tally from the doorstep by Cole Ruwe assisted by Garrett Vermeersch and Summers with 7:37 left in regulation.
Kyle Rank earned a 19-save shutout for Peoria (2-1-1) while Andrew Flemming took the loss for Louisiana (2-2-0) with 20 saves. The Rivermen were 2-of-13 on the power play while the Gators came up empty in five power play chances.
The Rivermen return home to face the Knoxville Ice Bears on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at Carver Arena. The Rivermen will wear the Bruce Saurs commemorative jerseys for the final time on Friday and auction them immediately after the contest.
