Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen continue their push toward the regular season title in the Southern Professional Hockey League with two crucial weekend games on the road against a team tied for second place.
The Rivermen own a 33-16-3 record for 69 points as they visit suburban Memphis for games on Friday and Saturday against the Mississippi RiverKings, who are tied with Columbus for the runner-up position entering weekend play. The RiverKings are 5 points behind Peoria with a record of 31-18-2 for 64 points. All SPHL teams have one or two games in hand on the Rivermen.
Peoria is coming off a setback last Saturday at Huntsville, losing against the last-place squad 3-1 on Saturday after a one-sided 6-2 win on Friday. The RiverKings have ridden the SPHL's top defense to four straight wins and six victories in their last seven contests. Mississippi has captured four of the seven meetings with the Rivermen. The squads will meet again in Southaven next weekend for the final two regular season games.
Rivermen goalie Kyle Rank leads the SPHL with 25 wins and is second with a 2.30 goals against average. Josh Harris leads the Rivermen offense with 44 points, tied for 10th in the league, and is on a 7-game point streak with 14 points during that period. Jake Trask and Harris lead the Rivermen with 21 goals while Alex Hudson has registered 26 assists and is fifth in plus-minus in the SPHL with a +20 rating.
