October 25, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Saturday night's game between the Peoria Rivermen and the Huntsville Havoc at Carver Arena has been suspended early in the second period due to an injury to a Havoc player.
The Rivermen were leading the contest 2-1 with 13:37 remaining in the second period when the game was stopped. The Havoc struck first just 2:26 into the game when Eric Alexander sharply redirected a drive from the right circle with assists given to Philip Wendecker and Nick Lazorko. The Rivermen evened the game just 2:14 later when Josh Harris punched home a short rebound on helpers from Jake Trask and Richie Zobak.
The Rivs grabbed a 2-1 lead 1:58 into the middle chapter when Shawn Skelly ripped a long rebound top shelf with assists given to Zobak and Matt Summers.
The game was stopped 6:23 into the second period when Havoc forward Justin Cseter was injured in a battle for the puck behind the Peoria net. Medical personnel attended to Cseter for several minutes on the ice before transporting him by ambulance. Arena personnel cleaned a large amount of blood from the ice and resurfaced the rink, but the teams and officials subsequently decided to suspend the contest due to the seriousness of the injury. The teams play seven more times this season with the next meetings on Dec. 12 and 13 in Huntsville. A date to resume the contest will be announced.
The Rivermen return to the ice next weekend with 7:05 p.m. games on Friday and Saturday at Pensacola and a 3:05 p.m. contest next Sunday at Louisiana. The next home action is the following weekend on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3:05 p.m. against Knoxville.
