Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen wrapped up the home portion of the 2007-08 Season with a 4-1 victory over the Iowa Stars on Saturday night at Carver Arena.

A scoreless first period gave way to Martin Kariya's 15th goal of the year, a shorthanded marker at 7:24 of the middle frame. Kariya brought the puck in over the Iowa line, stopping in the high slot and waiting for room to open up before wristing a shot past rookie netminder Mitch O'Keefe making his first pro start.

Marty Sertich tied the game in the third period just 1:58 in with a power play goal from James Neal and Raymond Sawada, but then Peoria broke the game open with three in a row.

Nicholas Drazenovic scored at 9:51 by jamming a shot in past O'Keefe during a scramble in front of the Iowa goal, followed by Charles Linglet's 24th of the year from Trent Whitfield and Ryan Reaves at 16:08. Finally, Jean-Guy Trudel recorded his 22nd of the season with just .8 seconds remaining in the game, an empty net goal to seal the victory.

For the second straight night, Hannu Toivonen was solid in net, turning aside 23-of-24 shots in the win. O'Keefe finished with 33 saves in his pro debut on 36 shots.

Iowa finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while Peoria went 0-for-3.

The Rivermen will wrap up the 2007-08 Season tomorrow afternoon in Chicago against the Wolves. Puck drop is slated for 3 pm, with the Rivermen Pre-Game Show with Tom Callahan kicking off one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio.
