Rivermen Captain Promoted to ECHL Kalamazoo

January 14, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Tuesday that captain Jarrett Rush has been called up to the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL) and will report immediately. The 28-year-old stay-home defenseman becomes the team's ninth call-up this season. He is expected to miss at least four games.

Trudel plans to designate a third alternate captain later this week, who will serve in that role throughout Rush's absence.

Rush appeared in all but one game for the Rivermen this season (27 contests) and recorded six points (1g, 5a) along with 43 penalty minutes. A fourth-year pro, he spent the majority of last season in the ECHL between Elmira, Orlando, South Carolina and Colorado. Overall, the 6'5, 225-pound defenseman has played 84 regular season games in the ECHL and an additional 38 games in the SPHL.

Prior to turning pro, Rush spent three seasons at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, where he was coached by Rob Davies, a former winger on Peoria's inaugural IHL team in 1982-83.

A native of Pennington, New Jersey, Rush was named Peoria's 20th captain in franchise history on October 22, 2013. He joins fellow Rivermen Nick Wheeler, Tyler Fernandez, Parker Stanfield and Paul Karpowich on ECHL call-ups.

Peoria returns to action Friday with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop against the Bloomington Thunder at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The game can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or online at www.cd1079.net . Fans can also follow along via the live video and audio stream at www.americaonesports.com .
