Rivermen Announce New Trainer and Medical Partners

The Peoria Rivermen are pleased to announce that the team has hired Normal, Illinois native Michelle Novak as its head athletic trainer for the 2013-14 season. In addition, the Rivermen have also agreed to partnerships with Unity Point Methodist, Midwest Orthopaedic Center, Accelerated Rehabilitation Center, Comprehensive Emergency Solutions and Dr. Scott Anderson, DDS for the upcoming season.

Novak, 29, has been employed by the Accelerated Rehabilitation center since 2011. She spent the 2011-12 season as a trainer with Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Illinois, before returning to the Bloomington-Normal area to jumpstart her career in sports medicine in Central Illinois. Last year, she served as the head athletic trainer for the Bloomington Edge in the Arena Football League.

Novak is a graduate of Illinois State University where she earned her degree in athletic training in 2009. While in undergrad, she spent one of her clinical rotations working closely with the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. In 2011, she earned her Master's degree in psychology of sport and exercise from Illinois State.

The Rivermen are also happy to announce their complete list of medical partners and staff for the 2013-14 season.

The Rivermen will open their 32nd season of professional hockey, and first in the Southern Professional Hockey League, on Friday, Oct. 25 with a 7:15 p.m. road game at Bloomington. Peoria will return to Carver Arena for its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a 7:15 p.m. rematch against the Thunder. Great seats are still available and start at just $8. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a 2013-14 season magnet schedule and 20 lucky fans will win a game-worn jersey.
