
Rivermen Acquire Popular Forward from Louisiana

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced today that forward Robert Short has been acquired from the Louisiana IceGators in exchange for future considerations.
Short, 24, has spent the last three seasons in the Southern Professional Hockey League and was a fan favorite during his tenure in Louisiana. In 2012-13, he notched 49 points (13g, 36a) with 79 penalty minutes in 51 regular season games for the IceGators. He also added a goal and four assists in six playoff games.
The 6'0, 215-pound native of Coldstream, British Columbia has been with Louisiana since the 2010-11 season. In 117 career games for the IceGators, he notched 44 goals and 64 assists for 108 points. During his pro career, he also spent two games with Rio Grande Valley (CHL) in 2011-12 and 26 games with Pensacola (SPHL) in 2010-11. Short played five seasons of junior hockey with the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Hockey League before turning pro.
The Rivermen have also added winger Matt Viola to their training camp roster, which currently consists of 31 players. Viola, 25, spent the last four seasons at State University of New York - Potsdam, where he registered 12 goals and 33 assists in 83 career games.
The 6'0, 195-pound native of Toronto also played four seasons of junior hockey in Ontario from 2005-2009.
The Rivermen will host their first preseason game on Friday, Oct. 18 against the Bloomington Thunder. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. and all seats are just $10 each, with season ticket holders getting in free.
