Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Evansville looked to get a win Sunday night against Peoria after dropping their first two games this weekend to Mississippi. Unfortunately, The Thunderbolts were shot down in a 6-4 loss to the Rivermen.
The Thunderbolts came out gunning in the first period. John Scorcia scored his fifth goal of the season just over a minute into the game. Justin MacDonald and Tommy Fiorentino assisted on the goal. Evansville would build a two-goal lead later in the first period. Brandon Lubin rocketed a point shot past the Peoria netminder Tyler Green. It was Lubin's second goal of the season, his first with the Thunderbolts. Peoria retaliated with a goal of their own 16 seconds later. Cody Dion scored his sixth goal of the season against the Thunderbolts. However, Lubin would strike again as the Thunderbolts ended the period with a two-goal lead.
It was only the seventh time in 32 games this season that Evansville has had a lead after the first period. In the second period, the propellers fell off the Thunderbolts. Evansville gave up four goals in the period, two of them on the powerplay, and the Thunderbolts two-goal lead turned into a two-goal deficit. Mike Doan came in to relieve Tanner Milliron with 6:30 left to play in the second.
Evansville battled back in the third. Andrew Harrison scored his third of the season at the 2:28 mark to get the Thunderbolts within one. However, Garrett Vermeersch, a former Thunderbolt, finished the scoring extending the Rivermen's lead back to two. Vermeersch had a goal and two assists against his former club.
