WEEK IN REVIEW (3 games / 3-0)
Thursday, November 17 RiverKings 3 Fort Worth 2 @ DCC
Derek Landmesser had a goal and an assist, Travis Banga scored the game winner and Miguel Beaudry stopped 25 shots including a game-saver down the stretch to help RverKings to a win over the Brahmas Thursday. Memphis snapped a brief two game losing streak and, in the process, handed Fort Worth it's first road loss of the season. The game didn't start well for the RiverKings, though, as Derek Seal scored on the Brahmas first shot of the game at 2:09 of the first. The RiverKings came back with a power play goal from Landmesser, his fifth of the season, at 11:16 of the first to tie the game going into the intermission. The RiverKings owned the second period by out-shooting the visitors 12-4 and outscoring them 2-0. Darrell Stoddard scored his third of season as he tipped in a Ryan Campbell shot at 8:13 and Banga's goal came off a nice feed from behind the net from Ken Goetz at 12:52 to make it 3-1. The third period was scoreless until Corey Stillman swatted in a rebound in front of the net at the 8:02 mark to tighten the score at 3-2. Beaudry's lead-preserving save came on a rebound after a break away by Stillman. On the put back attempt by the Brahmas, Beaudry was on his belly and reached up to spear the puck as it was seemingly headed for the back of the net.
Friday, November 18 RiverKings 4 Fort Worth 3 @ DCC
Ryan Campbell scored a pair of goals and Miguel Beaudry made 41 saves to lead the Memphis RiverKings to their second straight win over the Brahmas. The win moved the RiverKings to within one game of the .500 mark at 5-6-0 and also sent Fort Worth to their third straight defeat. Ryan Watson got the scoring going early with a power play goal at 1:57 of the first period on the power play. It would be the first of three power play goals and four special teams goals for the RiverKings. It was also just the fourth time in the 11 games that the RiverKings have scored first. Fort Worth would come back later in the period with the equalizer from Wes Mason at 15:22. For the second straight night, Memphis outscored the Brahmas by two in the second period. Campbell's first of the night came shorthanded at 2:58. Campbell stole the puck at his blue line and won the race the other way to beat rookie netminder Keni Gibson for a 2-1 lead. Less than six minutes later, Campbell struck again, this time on the power play. After Travis Banga added his third goal in three games and his sixth of the season at 17:40 of the second, Memphis had built a 4-2 and, much like last night's 3-2 win, would be able to withstand a Fort Worth uprising in the third to hold on for 4-3 win. The RiverKings went three for five on the power play while the Brahmas went one for 11. Beaudry won his second straight with a 41 save performance.
Saturday, November 19 RiverKings 2 Bossier-Shreveport 1 @ Bossier City
Guy St Vincent made 32 saves and the RiverKings killed 12 of Bossier-Shreveport's 13 power play chances to pick up a 2-1 win. After allowing the first goal of the game at 3:41 of the first period to Brett Smith, St. Vincent was impenetrable as Memphis won their third in a row and moved back to .500 at 6-6-0. With the game 1-0 and on the power play, Travis Banga's acrobatic, between the legs feed to Ryan Watson at 13:59 of first period tied the game. It was Watson's fourth of the season and the first period would end in a 1-all tie. The lone goal of the second period, and the final goal of the game for that matter, came on a Don Parsons one timer on a strong-side feed from Derek Landmesser late in the period at 19:04. It was Parsons' team-leading eighth of the season and sent the game into the third period at 2-1. That is when the Memphis penalty kill and St. Vincent took center stage. The RiverKings had to kill four penalties in the third as they clung to the fragile one goal lead on the road.
