Mississippi RiverKings News Release


The first place RiverKings set out on their first lengthy stretch of road games this season. The team will take their four game winning streak to Bossier-Shreveport and Wichita this Friday and Saturday for the first of seven in a row away from the DCC. The team started with 17 of its first 23 at home. The RiverKings own the top road record in the CHL at 5-1-0 entering the road trip.

Friday, December 15

Memphis 6 Wichita 2 @ DCC

Derek Landmesser had four assists and six different RiverKings scored goals in the dominating win over the Thunder. The RiverKings held the Thunder to just one shot in the first period and to six shots through two periods. For the game, Memphis out-shot Wichita 47-15. Jason Sessa, Ryan Campbell, Darrell Stoddard, Rick Kozak, Travis Banga and Derek Campbell scored for the RiverKings. It was a milestone night for Landmesser, as he became the RiverKings all-time assists leader and also picked up his 500th career point. To go with Landmesser's four assists, other RiverKings with multiple point nights included Banga (1 goal, 2 assists); Derek Campbell (1 goal, 1assist); Ryan Campbell (1 goal, 1 assist); and Steve Makway (2 assists).

Saturday, December 16

Memphis 4 Tulsa 3 SO @ DCC

The RiverKings and Oilers went past regulation for the third time in as many games this season. The win was the RiverKings' third of the week and second shootout victory over the Oilers in five days. Rick Kozak, Darrell Stoddard and Ryan Held scored in regulation for Memphis, with Louis Dumont, who missed time in the first period after being hit into the boards on play where Tulsa's Bryan Lachapelle was given a game misconduct, scored in the shootout's fifth round for the game winner. For the second consecutive night, the RiverKings dominated in the shots on goal statistic, doubling up the Oilers 54-27. Larry Sterling made 24 saves in the win. The RiverKings also improved their record in shootouts to 4-1.

Tuesday, December 19

Memphis 4 Oklahoma City 3 @ DCC

Derek Campbell scored twice to help the RiverKings cap off a perfect 3-0 week. After falling behind on a Blazer goal 1:26 into the game, the RiverKings rebounded with goals from Rick Kozak and Campbell in the first and Travis Banga in the second for a 3-1 lead. Campbell's second of the night in the final minute of the second made the score 4-2 and was the game winner. Larry Sterling stopped 27 of 30 Blazer shots to win his CHL leading 15th game. Ryan Held assisted on each of Campbell's goals for a two assist night.

RIVERKINGS HOLDING STRONG AT NUMBER TWO IN WEEKLY POLL

The RiverKings remained in the number two slot in this week's CHL Coach's Poll that was released today (Wednesday) by the league. The RiverKings, who have been number one in two polls this season, received 146 points and two first place votes. The Colorado Eagles remained at number one with a season high 158 points and 15 first place votes. Oklahoma City, Laredo and Youngstown round out the top 5. RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE

Forward Rick Kozak continued his goal streak with his first period tally Tuesday night. He now has scored a goal in each of the last four games with five goals total during that stretch.

Forward Ryan Campbell extended his point streak Tuesday to 8 games (3-7-10) with his assist on Kozak's goal. The streak is the longest such streak of his career.

Travis Banga, with his goal and assist Tuesday, has a 7 game point streak (3-7-10).

Forward Derek Campbell had his second professional two-goal game in the win over the Blazers. He also had one last season while playing with the Geleen Smoke Eaters in the Dutch League. Campbell has also already established a new single season career high for goals with 7.

With Tuesday night's victory, the RiverKings improved to 11-0-1 when leading entering the third period

The RiverKings also improved to 10-1-3 in one goal games. Fourteen of the team's 23 games have been decided by a goal.

The RiverKings currently have the most standings points in the CHL with 35 and the second best winning percentage with .761. Colorado sits with 34 points and a .810 winning percentage.

Tulsa's Bryan Lachapelle was suspended for one game by the CHL for his boarding major on the RiverKings' Louis Dumont in the first period of Saturday's game.

THE STAT

"101-42" --- The margin by which the RiverKings out-shot their opponents (Wichita and Tulsa) in two games last weekend.

RIVERKINGS ROAD TRIP SENDOFF ON THURSDAY AT WINDY CITY GRILLE

Fans are invited to come and help send the RiverKings on their way as they embark on a stretch of seven straight road games Thursday. The Road Trip Sendoff will be held at the Windy City Grille in Como, MS with the team is expected to arrive at approximately 12:45 pm. The players and traveling staff will eat lunch there, be available to sign autographs and mingle with fans. The Windy City Grille is located in downtown Como, MS. They are known for their signature pizzas, great pasta and fantastic burgers and sandwiches. Come have a great lunch and wish your RiverKings luck in the upcoming road games.

KWAC SELLING CD-ROM HOCKEY MANAGER GAME WITH CHL TEAMS

RIVERKINGS PROGRAMS ARE TRUE COLLECTORS ITEMS THIS SEASON

The RiverKings Game Day Program is a must purchase when you come to a game. There will be 13 different editions printed throughout the season with several updated features from edition to edition, including a different cover each edition, an updated schedule with game results and updated player photos for any future roster changes (great for player autographs). The program has also gotten into the spirit of the team's 15th anniversary. Each program edition will have a different RiverKings history story that goes back and profiles a former player or coach from past RiverKings seasons. To go even farther back, each program edition will also have a feature about when hockey was here in the 60's when the Memphis Wings and South Stars called the Mid-South Coliseum home. A program sells for $2 and includes a game-day insert with rosters and notes about that night's game included. The game-day insert sells for $1 by itself. Programs are sold at the main west entrance to the DCC arena before the game and also at the two merchandise stands before and during the game.
