RiverKings To Clean Up Highway
October 13, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) --- Looking to help the kids clean up their act? Need extra points with Santa before the holidays? The RiverKings can help: the pro hockey team is hosting its bi-annual Highway Cleanup Day on November 7, from 8:30 to noon, focusing on the stretch of Highway 51 running from Church Road to Starlanding Road.
The Central Hockey League franchise has partnered with the "Adopt-A-Highway" program through the Mississippi Department of Transportation over the past four years, committing to keep that stretch of highway free of debris. MDOT reports that litter cleanup costs the Magnolia State about $2 million each year, and the "Adopt-A-Highway" program helps curb costs while keeping Mississippi roadways clean.
Food and refreshment will be available in a cook out, to be held at the completion of the clean-up effort.
The involvement of the DeSoto County community in this worthwhile event is always appreciated. To take part, please let the RiverKings front office know before 5 p.m., November 5, by calling 662-342-1755.
The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss., to lessen the burden of the DeSoto County government by increasing the viability of the DeSoto Civic Center and promoting the long-term economic development of the community. The Foundation now uses the team in a variety of programs that increase investments in area charities and their causes.
