
RiverKings Take Game 1 from Augusta

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.-- The Mississippi RiverKings opened the season at home with a hard-fought 5-4 win over the Augusta RiverHawks.
The RiverKings got on the board first with a goal from captain Darrell Stoddard assisted by Kyle Lundale and rookie Patrick Gaul. The RiverHawks tied the game at one with a power play goal from Chad Ziegler at the 18:15 mark. But the RiverKings came right back. Ian Finnerty notched his first professional goal on a pass from Daniel Barczuk to give the "ËKings the lead heading into the first intermission.
Just 1:09 into the second, the RiverKings extended their lead when Matt Whitehead scored, assisted by Kevin Willer and Mike Baran. Goal number four for the RiverKings came just four minutes later from Daniel Barczuk assisted by Ian Finnerty and Kyle Lundale. Augusta would cut the lead back to two one minute later from Aaron McGill, assisted by Mike Switzer.
The RiverKings scored first, 13:56 into the third period from Andrew Randazzo, assisted by Nick Walsh. Augusta bounced back at the 15:49 mark with a goal from Kyle Watson to make the score 5-3. Augusta would put a late goal on the board in the third with 33 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough to pull out a win, as the RiverKings held on to win 5-4.
David Wilson received the win stopping 21 of 25 shots for the RiverKings. Alex Beaudry took the loss for the RiverHawks stopping 34 of 39 shots on goal.
Watch your RiverKings play tomorrow night, October 27, as they battle game number two against the Augusta RiverHawks. The "ËKings will be auctioning off their Pink in the Rink jerseys following the game.
