RiverKings silence Thunder again
November 27, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
The Mississippi RiverKings scored three times in the first period and coasted to a 3-0 win over the Wichita Thunder tonight at DeSoto Civic Center.
The RiverKings beat the Thunder for the second time in five days, won their fifth straight game overall, and improved to 12-3 on the season. The win leaves them just three points behind the Youngstown SteelHounds for the Northern Conference's best record. The RiverKings also have a game in hand on the SteelHounds.
Ryan Held scored his eighth goal of the season just 2:40 into the game to give Sebastien Centomo all the offense he needed. At 14:44, Ryan Campbell scored on the power play for his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Aaron Davis, however, broke the Thunder's spirit by scoring with just 44 seconds remaining in the period. With his sixth goal of the year, the RiverKings had scored three times in a period for the second straight game against the Thunder, outshooting them in the first period 23-5 and 42-21 for the game.
Centomo recorded his second shutout of the season. He now has a record of 24-3 with three shutouts all-time as a RiverKing. Sebastien Laplante made 39 saves for the Thunder.
The RiverKings went two for six on the power play. The Thunder, now 3-9, did not score on any of their six power play opportunities.
The RiverKings begin a three-game-three-nights road trip on Thursday against the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7:05 p.m.
