Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings head coach and director of hockey operations Derek Landmesser announced that the team has signed defenseman Justin Schmit. Terms and conditions were not released.
"Justin's the kind of player who's going to bring a lot of toughness to the team and someone who will stand up for his teammates," said Landmesser. "He's a character kid who wants to win and will no doubt become an instant fan-favorite."
After taking time away from the game to pursue a career in mixed martial arts, Schmit is hungry to get back into the game he grew up playing as a kid.
"I really missed playing the game and one of the things that bothered me was that I never won a championship playing professional hockey so I wanted to go somewhere where I have a good chance at one," Schmit said. "I'm excited to connect with the fans again and be part of the Mid-South community."
The Strathmore, Alta. native enters his fourth professional hockey season. He has amassed 502 penalty minutes over the course of 91 professional games split between Huntsville and Twin City of the Southern Professional Hockey League and Rocky Mountain and Tulsa of the Central Hockey League.
RiverKings season tickets are on sale now for the 2012-13 season. Season tickets start at just $9 per game and are available by calling the front office at 662-342-1755.
The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss.
