Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - Former Mississippi RiverKings goalie Scott Darling became the first former RiverKings player to win the Stanley Cup when the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 2-0, in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final Monday night in Chicago.
Darling, 26, played one season for the RiverKings in 2011-12 and in 35 games he was 15-17-1 with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. That year he also had numerous call ups to the CHL, ECHL and AHL. To see our story on his journey from the RiverKings to the NHL visit http://riverkings.com/news/posts/darling-paves-path-to-nhl.
"I couldn't be happier for 'Darls,'" said RiverKings Head Coach Derek Landmesser. "It's been a long road to the National Hockey League. He's earned his spot where he can call himself a Stanley Cup champion."
Darling split time this season between the Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs. He became the first former SPHL player to make it to the NHL when he was called up to Chicago in October. He made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on Oct. 26 and in 14 games with the Blackhawks Darling went 9-4-0 with a 1.94 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. He appeared in five games during Chicago's Stanley Cup run, all during the Blackhawks first round win over Nashville, in which he was 3-1 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.
