RiverKings score four in third to defeat Austin

SOUTHAVEN---The Memphis RiverKings evened there record and reversed at third period trend with a 5-2 win over the Austin Ice Bats on Thursday night if front of 2,387 at the DeSoto Civic Center. After losing early leads in their last two games against Colorado and New Mexico, the ‘Kings came back from a 2-0 first period deficit to score 5 unanswered to even their record at 3-3 and end a two game losing streak. Austin fell to 2-3 and has lost three in a row

Austin's Kelly Smart put Austin on the board with an unassisted short-handed goal at 8:28 of the first. Vinnie Jonasson made it 2-0 at 12:50. Alan Carr scored the first of the five unanswered at 16:54 on shot from the high slot that beat Ice Bats' netminder Matt Barnes. Phil Aucoin and Alexandre Mathieu pick up assists on the goal. Despite out-shooting the Ice Bats 20-8, the RiverKings trailed 2-1 after one.

The second period was scoreless. That wasn't the case in the third, at least not for the RiverKings. The newest RiverKing, Wayne Hall, scored his first RiverKing goal and second of the season overall to tie the game at 2:05 of the third period with an assist from Chris Pelletier. Three unassisted goals followed. Don Parsons scored the game winning tally at 4:25. Phil Aucoin wrapped up his two point night with a score at 13:10 and Chris Migliore put the game away with an empty netter with 34 seconds left.

After giving up two goals in the first, RiverKing netminder David Lemonowicz was outstanding making 26 saves for the win. The Ice Bats' Matt Barnes took the loss notching 37 saves. The ‘Kings out-shot Austin 42-28 for the game and won despite going 0 for 7 on the power play. Austin was 0 for 1 with the man advantage.

The RiverKings close out this short two game-homestand Friday night when they face the Bossier-Shreveport MudBugs. Game time is 7:05 and you can catch it live on Sports 56-WHBQ.
