SOUTHAVEN, Miss.—Memphis RiverKings defenseman Stephen Margeson will read to the four- and five-year-old kindergarten classes at Southern Baptist Educational Center on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. in honor of National Children's Book Week.

Other local celebrities who will visit the class this week include the mayor of Southaven, the school principal and librarian and a nurse.

"We're tying to get people involved from the community in reading to the kids," said kindergarten teacher Debra Holbrook. "It's a small social studies lesson in itself. We get to talk about hockey and how that ties into our community. It's a science lesson because we can talk about the ice and how ice is made. It's a geography lesson, because many of the men who play are from Canada. It helps bring the big outside world inside our little classroom and expand our horizons a little."

Holbrook said that in general children love stories, but having the RiverKings visit and read is a special treat.

"It gives them a chance to hear someone other than their teacher read to them," Holbrook said. "It makes reading fun and important."
