Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Southaven, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings won their second straight gameas they battled back to take down the Mississippi Surge 3-2 at the Landers Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Surge got on the board first as Shawn Skelly ripped a shot past a screened Scott Darling to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn and Tyler Ruel picked up the assists.

The 'Kings got even in the second period. As Matt Whitehead carried the puck into the Surge zone, he found Kyle Lundale trailing the play and Lundale buried the puck over Nick Eno to tie the game at one.

In the third period, Leland Fidler threw the puck toward the net after keeping it in at the blueline. Mark Magnowski then deflected the puck up and over the Surge netminder to give the 'Kings a 2-1 lead. Just three minutes later, Ken Selby picked up a Fidler rebound and put it in the wide open net to notch an insurance goal the home team needed.

With just over two minutes left to go in regulation, Nick Klaren slipped behind the defense unnoticed and converted on Shawn Skelly's pass through the crease to cut the RiverKings' lead to one. But with Nick Eno on the bench, the Surge could not muster up a strong offensive push as the 'Kings picked up their second win in as many nights.

Scott Darling (10-13-1) picked up his second consecutive win as he stopped 30 of 32 shots against. Nick Eno (5-12-0) took the loss as he turned aside 26 of 29.

The RiverKings will hit the road next weekend with games against the Pensacola Ice Flyers and Mississippi Surge on Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday night has a 7:05 puck drop with a 3:05 start time for Sunday's matinee matchup in Biloxi. Both games can be heard on Sports 56.

The 'Kings return home on Tuesday, February 28 to take on the Huntsville Havoc at 10:05am for the 10th annual Face Off Field Trip. Be sure to get your tickets in advance for this exciting event.
