RiverKings Pick up Point against Pensacola

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (16-18-6) rallied back from being down 2-0 heading into the third period, but ultimately fell 3-2 in overtime to the Pensacola Ice Flyers (22-9-4) at the Lander's Center Tuesday night.

Pensacola got on the board first when Justin MacDonald's shot from the left circle took an odd bounce right by David Wilson 16:39 into the first period. The lone goal of the period gave Pensacola a one-goal lead headed into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, Pensacola took a two-goal lead 3:10 into the third period. Jordan Chong's one timer beat Wilson five hole on the power play to give the Ice Flyers a 2-0 lead.

But the RiverKings rallied back in the third period. At the 11:11 mark of the third period Matt Harrington picked up his twelfth goal of the season when he picked up Ian Finnerty's pass around the boards and beat Ross MacKinnon to cut the Ice Flyers lead by one. Mike MacDonald tied the game at two when he picked up Todd Hosmer's rebound to beat MacKinnon with 4:20 remaining in the final frame of play.

The RiverKings held off the Ice Flyers in the final minutes of play, forcing a sudden death overtime, but the Ice Flyers responded in overtime. With 3:05 remaining, Steven Bergin's quick shot from the circle beat Wilson five hole.

David Wilson (8-7-4) stopped 31 of 34 shots against in the overtime loss. Ross MacKinnon (12-3-0) turned aside 31 of 33 shots against in the win.

The RiverKings are on home ice again this Friday, February 8. The 'Kings take on the Louisiana Ice Gators at 7:05 p.m. at the Lander's Center.
