RiverKings open playoffs with 3-2 win

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK --- Louis Dumont scored the game winning goal and Larry Sterling made 28 saves as the Memphis RiverKings opened the 2007 CHL playoffs with a 3-2 victory over the Oklahoma City Blazers Thursday night at the Ford Center. The RiverKings, who are making their first playoff appearance since 2003, take a 1-0 lead in the first round series and will host game two Friday at 7:05 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for five goals in the second. Derek Campbell scored first at 2:33 into the period. The Blazers countered with tallies from Dallas Flaman and Ryan Watson in the next 2:08 to take a 2-1 lead. Travis Banga tied the game at 14:30 with Dumont's goal breaking the tie on the power play with just 38 seconds left in the second period. There was no scoring in the third as the teams combined for just 10 shots.

Dumont added an assist for a two-point night while Phil Aucoin collected a pair of assists.

For Sterling, it was his first playoff win in his first playoff game. The Blazers' Sebastien Centomo stopped 19 of 22 RiverKings shots to take the loss.

Game three of the best of seven series is scheduled for Sunday at 4pm at the DCC.
