Mississippi RiverKings News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX --- The Memphis RiverKings rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to tie the game, but it was the Corpus Christi Rayz that would finish with the 5-3 win Thursday night at the American Bank Center. Brad Wanchulak scored twice for the RiverKings as the team started its final road trip of the season.
The Rayz jumped out 1-0 just a minute-30 into the game on Chris Robertson's 13th of the season. It would stay 1-0 until Wanchulak put in a Don Parsons rebound at 16:05 of the second. The Rayz came back with two quickies in the next 2:11 to claim the 3-1 advantage heading into the third period.
Wanchulak got the RiverKings within one on a power play goal 1:12 into the period with Dorian Anneck tying it 13:57, again on the power play. But, in what has been season of bad breaks and bounces, another bad bounce hurt the RiverKings two and a half minutes later. With the Rayz on the power play, Bernie John's slap shot from the slot went high and wide, but caromed wildly off the glass and landed in front of the net where a waiting Shawn Legault put it in for what would be the game winner.
Robertson added an empty net goal with 11 seconds remaining to put the final at 5-3. Guy St Vincent took the loss between the pipes for Memphis, making 21 saves on 26 shots. Scott Reid was the winner with 31 save performance. The RiverKings outshot the Rayz 34-26.
The RiverKings continue their five game road trip and their swing through South Texas tomorrow night at Laredo at 7:30. That game will be back on Sports 56 WHBQ (AM 560).
