SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings held a successful Scout Night at their game Friday, November 14 when they hosted the Columbus Cottonmouths.

The Landers Center was full of Boy Scouts as the RiverKings, in conjunction with the Chickasaw Council, held a fundraiser for Boy Scout projects. Through fundraising ticket sales with the RiverKings, the Chickasaw Council raised over $3,305 to fund their programs in the area.

Alex Pelletier is the Northwest Mississippi District Executive for the Chickasaw Council. He said the funds will be distributed to a number of different programs throughout the year.

"The money raised through Scout Night at the RiverKings will help support numerous programs the District will put on during the year," Pelletier said. "It will help support events such as Webelos Encampment, Boy Scout Camporee, Cub Day Camp and District Pinewood Derby. Hundreds of Scouts will benefit from the support."

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

"This is a great event because for many of the Scouts this is the first hockey game they have ever been to," Pelletier said. "It's what the program is all about; providing opportunities for the Scouts and families to experience new things and provide the best program possible.

"This was also the first time many of our Scouts have ever skated," Pelletier added. "Those who participated in the post-game skate were able to earn part of their Ice Skating Belt Loop or Ice Skating Merit Badge."

The Chickasaw Council serves youth in the Mid-South, covering 17 counties, including, Shelby County in Tennesseee, Crittenden County in Arkansas and these Mississippi counties; Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Humphries, LeFlore, Montgomery, Panola, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, and Washington.
