RiverKings Head Coach Resigns

Southaven, MS - Maddox Hockey, Inc. announced today that Kevin McClelland has resigned from his position as Director of Player Operations and Head Coach of the Mississippi RiverKings hockey franchise.

"We appreciate the work Coach McClelland has done with our team and as part of our community for the past three years," said Robin Costa, President of Maddox Foundation. "Thanks in part to his work, we have been a solid playoff team the past two years. We wish him success with his career."

McClelland became Head Coach of the RiverKings in 2005. After missing the playoffs in his first season, McClelland and the RiverKings reached the Central Hockey League playoffs in 2006-2007 only to fall to eventual league champion Colorado in the third round. This past season, the RiverKings again reached the playoffs, but fell to Texas in an abbreviated playoff series. McClelland's regular season record as the RiverKings head coach was 100-77-15.

"Our goal remains to be a community-oriented team that provides quality entertainment to our fans," said Dave "Ab" Mattice, Director of Business Operations for the RiverKings, "and we will begin a search immediately for a new coach to help us achieve that goal." Mattice and Costa are attending the annual Central Hockey League meetings in Phoenix, Arizona.

Maddox Hockey, Inc. is a for-profit entity supported in part by the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, MS. The Foundation created Maddox Hockey in 2002 as a program related investment, to lessen the burden of the Desoto County government by increasing the viability of the Desoto Civic Center and promoting the long-term economic development of the community. The Foundation now uses the team in a variety of programs that increase investments in area charities and their causes.
