Mississippi RiverKings News Release
BILOXI, Miss. -- Matt Krahn stopped 20 of 21 shots against and Devin Mantha tallied the game-winner five minutes into the third period as the Mississippi RiverKings (29-21-4) took game two against the Mississippi Surge (22-26-5) with a 3-1 win in Biloxi on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, the teams traded goals in the second. Brett Vandehogen slipped behind the RiverKings' defense and found the back of the net on a breakaway to put the Surge on top 1-0 just 4:40 into the middle frame. The RiverKings answered four minutes later. Phil Bronner deposited a rebound past Mathieu Dugas off a Matt Smyth shot to tie the game at one going into the third.
In the third, the RiverKings wasted little time taking the lead. Devin Mantha's wrist shot rolled up the shoulder of Dugas and across the goal line for his 17th goal of the season and put the visitors on top 2-1. With Dugas on the bench and an extra attacker for the Surge, Todd Hosmer netted the empty-net goal to give the RiverKings the 3-1 victory.
Matt Krahn (16-10-3) stopped 20 of 21 shots against in the victory. Mathieu Dugas (14-13-2) stopped 35 of 37 shots against in the loss.
The RiverKings return to the Landers Center for the final home game of the regular season on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Knoxville Ice Bears. Tickets are on sale online at ticketmaster.com or by calling the RiverKings front office at 662-342-1755.
