Bloomington Thunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Thunder scored first in an intense, defensive affair but fell 2-1 in overtime to the Huntsville Havoc on Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Thunder took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission with only 10.4 seconds left in the opening period on Nic Polaski's redirect of a drive in the deep slot by Kyle Watson, set up by a right wing pass from Travis Granbois.

After a scoreless second period, the Havoc tied the game when Justin Alonzo slid the puck from the bottom of the right circle with his back to the net and into the goal between the legs of Thunder goalie B.J. O'Brien with 7:10 remaining.

The Havoc were given a power play with only 3.5 seconds remaining in regulation and scored on that man advantage in the extra session when Scott Harff knocked a tumbling puck in at close range, assisted by Dominic Osman and Ray Ortiz.

O'Brien took the loss with 24 saves while Kevin Genoe earned the win with 32 stops. The Havoc were 1-for-8 on the power play while the Thunder were 0-for-5.

The Thunder still have a chance at the post-season if they win the remaining four games and the eighth-place Mississippi Surge lose all three since the first tiebreaker is regular-season wins.

The Thunder conclude the weekend series with the Havoc on a Kids Day game on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Children 12 and under are admitted for only $5 with kids meals only $3. All ages are invited to skate with the team after the game. The game can be heard on 93.7 FM inside U.S. Cellular Coliseum and on WJBC.com and America One subscription video with online links at www.bloomingtonthunder.com. The Thunder then visit Peoria on Tuesday before the final two games of the season next Friday and Saturday against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Group discounts for the final two home games next weekend are still available by calling the Thunder office at 309-434-2980. Individual tickets are available through the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office. The latest Thunder information can be found on Facebook, Twitter and www.bloomingtonthunder.com.
