Mississippi RiverKings News Release

TULSA, OK --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League fell to the Tulsa Oilers in game five of their best-of-five opening round playoff series 5-2, ending the season for the RiverKings and moving the Oilers on the Berry Conference semi-finals against Bossier-Shreveport.

Tulsa opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period. Jack Combs scored his first goal of the playoffs, sneaking the puck past the pads of RiverKings goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy at six minutes of the frame for a 1-0 lead. The team scoring the first goal has won every game of this playoff series.

The Oilers added to the lead with a slap shot from Chad Costello at 14:01, assisted by Combs for a 2-0 advantage that became the first intermission score.

There was no scoring in the second period until Costello scored his second goal of the night, beating Pechurskiy at 17:06 for his fourth goal of the playoffs and a 3-0 lead going into the final period.

The RiverKings rallied back quickly in the final period, scoring twice in the first four minutes to get within a goal. Darrell Stoddard opened the Mississippi scoring at 2:36, on assists from Tyler Sheldrake and Patrik Levesque for the first goal.

Chris Auger got the RiverKings' second goal just over a minute later at 3:37 on the power play, assisted by Matt Summers and Chris Richards.

But Braden Walls then scored the Oilers' fourth goal at 6:13 from Marty Standish and R.J. Linder, and Combs' second goal completed the scoring at 6:50, assisted by Costello and Michel Beausoleil for the final 5-2 score.

Mississippi outshot the Oilers 34-29 for the contest and scored once on the power play in three chances. Tulsa finished scoreless in five power play opportunities.

Pechurskiy (2-3) stopped 24 shots in taking the loss, while Trevor Cann (2-1) made 32 saves in posting his third playoff victory.

The RiverKings' organization would like to thank all of the fans and sponsors backing the team for their support during the season and look forward for the new season to begin.
