RiverKings Defenseman Visits Olive Branch Elementary School

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.—Memphis RiverKings defenseman Tim Schneider visited Amy Wilson's kindergarten class at Olive Branch Elementary School, where he read the book "Z is for Zamboni" to the class.

The book, an alphabet book, covered topics from famous players to the famous ice-cleaning machine, the zamboni. After reading the book, Schneider answered questions from the class.

A few of the children asked about injuries. Questions included: Do you get hurt in hockey? Do you get punched in the face? Do you ever get a chipped tooth?

"People do get hurt sometimes," Schneider said. "I'm just coming off an injury myself. It does happen."

The children were especially impressed by the description of the team bus, which includes DVD players, satellite cable, bathrooms, a refrigerator, a microwave and bunk beds for each player.

"We have to be on the bus for long periods of time," Schneider said. "The farthest place we travel to is 22 hours away. That's almost a full day."

When the book talked about trophies and the Stanley Cup, Schneider passed around his championship ring from the RiverKings 2002-2003 championship. After he was done reading and answering questions, he autographed posters for the children, while the teacher handed out some RiverKings rally towels.

"It's been a long time since I read a book, but it was fun," Schneider said after leaving the classroom. "I really enjoyed it."
