Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has re-signed forward Burke Gallimore and signed rookie forward Matt Wray for training camp. Terms and conditions were not released.
Gallimore, 23, split his rookie season between Wichita (CHL), Bloomington (SPHL) and the RiverKings. In 17 games with the RiverKings, the Edmonton, Alta. native registered six goals and eight assists.
"We are very happy to have 'Gally' back for a full season," Landmesser said. "He's a highly skilled player who is a great addition to our team."
With a full professional season under his belt, Gallimore is ready to get back to Southaven and finish the job he and his teammates started last year.
"That first month as a professional, I think for all rookies, can be a bit overwhelming, but, as the season went on, I picked up quickly on how to take care of myself off the ice," Gallimore said. "The fire has been burning all summer to get back to work and get a championship this season."
Wray, 24, wrapped up a three-year collegiate career at the University of British Columbia in 2014. The Qualicum Beach, BC native had five points and 57 penalty minutes in 33 games. In his final two years of junior hockey, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound forward collected 49 points and 423 penalty minutes in 101 games.
"Matt is a big, physical forward who brings size up front," Landmesser said. "He will be a player our fans are going to love to watch."
Wray is excited to begin his professional career in Southaven.
"I've heard great things about this organization through the hockey community," Wray said. "I'm looking forward to coming into camp, cement myself on the roster and do anything it takes to win this season."
The RiverKings open their 2014-15 quest for the President's Cup on October 24 and 25 at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss. Receive a ticket to both games that weekend starting at $17 and get a free t-shirt. Groups of 15 or more who purchase tickets will receive complimentary tickets to a future RiverKings home game.
