Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced that they have entered into a working relationship with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL), according to RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski. The Admirals are the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Tampa Bay Lightning.

While not a direct affiliation, the relationship means the Admirals and the RiverKings will be working together during the 2008-09 season, with the Admirals offering support to the RiverKings' program.

Norfolk General Manager Mike Butters told Kaminski in the letter of agreement, "Your long standing efforts and success as a coach and your dedication to your players make it an easy decision to work with you and your program. Both myself and our organization would feel comfortable in assigning any of our players to you, if the opportunity presented itself, knowing they would receive the best of coaching and treatment your league has to offer."

Kaminski says this can be a great relationship that can have benefits for both teams. "Playing with (Norfolk) general manager Mike Butters one year and knowing (Tampa Bay coach) Barry Melrose since I was fifteen, I know what kind of character and work ethic they bring. We will get along well and if we get any prospects, it will be a bonus. You never know what might slip through the cracks."

The Mississippi RiverKings are about to embark on their 17th season of bringing professional hockey excitement to the Mid-South.
